It was a warm, breezy day in the summer palace as Cinderella sat on a marble bench under a spreading chestnut tree. She was wearing her usual party dress, the same one she wore that fateful night when she met the prince, now her husband: a silver ball gown with a plunging neckline, puffy sleeves and white panniers over the skirt. Her hair was done up in a twist, held together by a white headband that accentuated her bright blue eyes. Leaning next to her was a small pink parasol, as it was quite hot that day and she needed the shade it provided.

Cinderella sighed tiredly, wondering what she could do with her time. It seemed like forever since anything exciting happened after her marriage to the prince. Of course, she loved the new life she led, but at the same time she was disconcerted by the stiff manners of the court and the inability of travelling outside the palace walls. She was kicking her feet delicately and smoothing out her dress when she noticed a bright glow from the corner of her eye. Getting up, she noticed a light emanating from the nearby bushes which rustled. Taking note of the lack of breeze, she picked up her pink parasol and walked towards the bushes.

Pushing the bushes apart, she saw a small trail, barely wide enough for her dress which she started to walk upon. Floating along that trail was a small, glowing ball of light. Cinderella had never seen anything like it before, and was instantly mesmerized by the sight of the incandescent orb. However, when she tried to approach it, the ball quickly floated away further down the trail. With nothing better to do, she decided to follow the ball down the trail. However, after a while she started to get frustrated with her petticoats getting snagged on all the low branches, but finally she reached the end of the trail, which terminated at a tree with a peculiar hole in the bottom.

Just when she was sure she caught the ball and could finally examine it, it immediately dropped down the hole, as if gravity had finally acted upon it. Getting down on her knees, Cinderella crept to the hole and looked into it. But all she could see was darkness. She leaned closer and tried to call down to whatever might be inside.

"Hello?"

She felt silly doing this, but there was something strange about the glowing ball. It almost seemed to be leading her to somewhere. At that moment, Cinderella thought she could see a faint light at the bottom and leaned over more to get a better look. But as she did, the ground gave way and she was tumbling head over heels into the chasm, her petticoats fluttering everywhere.

Cinderella screamed as she saw the light from the surface above the hole quickly fade away, and she fell farther and faster. All she could think to do was feebly throw her arms up in an attempt to shield her from whatever lay in store for her below. Her hairband soon flew off her head along with any ribbons, and her golden blonde hair spilled out behind her as she tumbled and somersaulted further down the hole.

She hadn't the faintest idea what she could do now, but as her body went through another somersault, something strange happened. All at once, Cinderella felt a sudden and violent jolt like she had been pulled by a harness, causing her body to practically bounce in midair. Accompanying that jolt was a large and audible "POOF!" as she felt her fall slow significantly to a mere drift. The young princess was astounded, and looked around to see what could be the cause of her current state.

Cinderella looked at her surroundings, she wasn't sure if she was still falling, but at least she stopped tumbling. Looking up she saw the light from the outside world had faded, she looked down in curiosity to see the most peculiar sight! Her skirt had managed to billow out to gigantic proportions, and Cinderella felt as if she was sitting on a cushion of air.

"This can't be what's slowing my fall..." she thought to herself. "I wonder if..."

She experimentally pushed down her dress, and her skirt almost immediately collapsed sending her plummeting down the hole. Her skirts flapped up and over her head with nothing but the sound of whipping winds accompanying her fall. Her hair was also waving wildly in the air and in a panic, she released her hands from her dress. The result was a loud noise, like the sound of fluffing a pillow. Her dress ballooned out to its widest, jolting poor Cinderella upright.

"OHH!"

Cinderella smoothed out the birds nest her hair had become from the fall. Her fall returned to a gentle float, and as darkness covered her, Cinderella knew that if she was to survive this, she would have to keep her balance and not touch her dress, so far her only lifesaver. It was so unbelievable that her dress was all that was keeping her safe at the moment.

"Well," she reflected, her voice echoing, "after this, I won't have to worry about falling off the balcony."

The hole grew increasingly dark until she could not even see the dirt walls, let alone her hand in front of her face. She was a bit frightened, but not as much as she was when she was just falling like a rock. Now that she thought about it, what was at the bottom? She tilted forward slightly to see what she was coming to but besides her feet in the foreground, it was too dark to see anything, which was quickly becoming the situation with her surroundings in general.

At that moment, a low gentle light appeared below, slowly approaching her. It looked like a gas lamp standing on a table. Of course, after seeing something defying the basic laws of gravity, Cinderella would normally be frazzled but if she was able to survive a long fall safely with just her dress supporting her, she’ll believe anything. She reached for the wick and turned it up as she floated down past it.

As the lights went up and her silver dress was lit along with it, the entire hole took on a new life. Cinderella's jaw dropped as she gazed around at the walls to see knick-knacks and adornments of all kinds. The first thing she realized as she floated down was that the hole was very wide, so wide that it could fit several princesses in ball gowns next to each other. She actually had to lean slightly left or right to touch the walls, which had changed from dirt and roots to patterned wood walls. Cinderella felt like a giant cushion of air was contained under her dress, and she wondered how it was all possible. It was nowhere near large enough to double as a parachute, although it was splayed out as far as it could go, the fabric bouncing up like a balloon when she experimentally poked it.

The rabbit hole was filled with all sorts of adornments and floating objects that caught the princess' attention. Books, paintings, and even furniture seemed fixed in space in complete defiance of all logic and gravity. She stared in wonder at an old armchair with a matching ottoman, as if hung by wires. Then she drifted by a desk with a pen and paper, written in black ink words she could barely catch as she slowly fell past it.

My Dearest Cinderella...

She saw a painting, a portrait of her and the prince together, gazing into each other's eyes on the night they met at that grand ball. How her stepmother and stepsisters didn't spot her or recognize her was beyond her comprehension. But the night was vivid in her memory, as the most thrilling and fulfilling night of her life. At the same time, however, she was perplexed as to why this painting would be here, as if the glowing orb had known she would follow it down here.

How odd, that a portrait of the two of us should be here. Just what is this place, anyway?

Cinderella floated by a full body-length mirror which reflected the image before it upside down. She realized this when she looked down and saw in the mirror she had a perfect view up her inflated skirts. Everything underneath was exposed, from her frilled white petticoats, her white stockings wrapped around her dangling sensuous legs, her matching garter belt, and her seductive blue panties trimmed with lace and a pink bow on the front. Even her lingerie was befitting for a princess. She giggled at the thought of flashing herself as she went past the mirror.

"Oh dear," she thought aloud, her voice echoing, "I do hope no one is below me. It would be such a scandal for someone to see me like this..."

The princess wiggled her hips back and forth to tilt slightly to her left, which made her drift gently towards a small nightstand with a few books floating in midair. It was hardly a means of directional control as her dress was so voluminous that any effort on her part to change direction was all but negated. As Cinderella met the nightstand, she picked up a book and began to read, since there was nothing else to do to pass the time. Surprisingly, the book was a collection of children's stories from her youth, the kind her father would often read to her before her mother's death. However, the book began with a story she had never heard of or read.

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, `and what is the use of a book,' thought Alice `without pictures or conversation?'

So she was considering in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure of making a daisy- chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.

It was so strange, she thought, as she never heard her father read this story to her. Perhaps because it was written after he passed on? Or maybe he simply never found it at the library?

The walls changed from patterned wood to regal fleur-de-lis wallpaper as Cinderella's inquiries were interrupted by what sounded like the chiming of a clock. She looked around, but couldn't see any clock that would tell the time to her. Now that she thought of it, how much longer did she have to fall anyway?

Cinderella tilted forward slightly and looked down, and was awestruck to see a tall clock drifting upwards toward her. From the face, it looked to be 2 in the afternoon exactly, but she swore that it was only 10 in the morning when she first saw that glowing ball that led her here. Had she been falling for hours, and just never noticed? And while she was thinking about it, just how far down did this hole do anyway? She had jumped from plenty of places and never did she fall this slow. Then again, every time before her dress never worked as a parachute either, and neither did she ever fall very far…

"OOH!"

The princess gasped, startled as she felt her bottom softly land on something and released the book from her hands. She was too busy paying attention to the clock to notice a large mattress drift upward beneath her. Her dress spread out around her like a tablecloth while she continued to float down with the mattress, as if she was sitting on a cloud. At least she wasn't flailing about in midair any longer. Though, she thought as she laid down on her back, looking up as various furnishings and adornments went by her, she shouldn't really be complaining. In fact, she was actually beginning to enjoy falling. The feeling of being in midair gave her a sense of weightlessness, making her all lightheaded. The gentle breeze of the air pushing out her skirt and around her legs was also refreshing. However the downside to it all was she was completely alone, and boredom therefore was a viable concern.

“How many miles have I fallen now?” she mused out loud to herself.

No answer came, and she turned on her side, ignoring the frills of her skirt that got in her way. Maybe if she had a small nap, it would speed up the journey a little. After all, it seemed like she would still be falling for a while. The feeling of floating on air was almost dreamlike to her as her blue eyes slowly closed, eyeing the walls as they turned from wallpaper to brick.

------

Cinderella woke up some time later, to find that she was still floating down the hole, and still lying comfortably on the mattress she landed on prior. She began to wonder: just how deep was this hole? More importantly, where did it lead to? Looking up, she noticed that there was no longer any light coming from the surface; she was so deep now there was no way she could get back. Of that, she was certain. That only begged the question of what would happen to her when she reached the bottom? Now that she thought about it, how close was she to the bottom?

The blonde princess sat up and looked over the side of the mattress, in a vain attempt to see if she was any closer to the bottom. Alas, all she could see was darkness. She obviously still had a long way to go. However, as she leaned over to see further down, the mattress tipped more and more to one side. Soon, the list of the mattress was too great and Cinderella slid off. The mattress capsized, sending poor Cinderella falling down the hole for several hair-raising seconds. Thankfully for her, as she turned upright, Cinderella's dress caught her and popped open, slowing her fall once again. Cinderella sighed in relief as she resumed her descent, and looked up worriedly at the mattress, standing on its side like a great monolith, floating up away from her. Her eyes then turned down, peering over the ballooned hem of her dress to see if she would have better luck seeing the bottom off the mattress.

Still, there was no sign of solid ground beneath her, only darkness. She sighed with a twinge of annoyance in her voice, wondering how long she could fall. If she had known this is what would happen to her, she never would have bothered following that glowing ball. Where was it, anyway? There had been nary a sight of it since the minute she tumbled down the hole to begin with. It almost seemed to be leading her to this, as if it beckoned her to experience this feeling of near weightlessness, the sensation of falling slowly, and enjoy the phenomenon of her...parachute dress.

"Perhaps," Cinderella thought to herself, "this will never end. Maybe I will just float down this rabbit hole to the bottom. However, I can't shake the feeling like this was intended for me. Like I was meant to do this. And it may sound strange, but I'm actually having fun!"

She noticed in the middle of her thoughts that the walls were starting to close in around her. Perhaps it was a sign her fall was nearing its end! She looked down and, despite her wide hem blocking most of her view, saw that the hole was narrowing, like the neck of a bottle. Perhaps this was a herald of how far she had come, that her long fall was nearing its end and she only needed to bear with the boredom a little longer. Cinderella welcomed the prospect of being back on solid ground, but she still had to think quickly of how to squeeze through the narrow passage.

Cinderella brought her feet and legs together as best she could (her expanded dress meant she couldn't see her legs), and waited as she slowly floated closer and closer to the bottleneck. Just as the walls contacted her shoes, she quickly outstretched her arms and pressed her skirt inward so she would fit through the narrow part of the hole, and sacrificing her reliable improvised parachute. The consequences were felt immediately as she fell like a rock through the tube, with her dress flying above her along with her frills flipping up in her face, leaving her unaware of what was below her. A loud shrill scream escaped her lips as she looked up and saw the narrow opening fall further and further away from her vision.

Her plummet was a fast one, as she had brought her legs together and had formed something of a human rocket, and she could hear nothing except the wind whipping at her dress and shawl and only fear possessed her as she wondered whether this was the end of her as she continued down. Down, down, down. The farther she fell, the more the rabbit hole felt like a death trap than the leisurely float it had been only minutes before. How long could the tube of a hole be? She didn’t have to wait long for an answer as the walls of the hole began to widen again to her rejoice. She wasted no time in releasing her hands from her dress as she exited the narrow part.

The dress inflated back into its dome shape, so quickly that Cinderella practically bounced in midair, her fall slowed once more.

"Goodness," she sighed in relief, fixing her hair back into place. "I wonder how long this can go on for. Anyone travelling this way must bored easily..."

She floated by a large map of the world, and examined it, thinking out loud where she might end up at the end of this hole.

“What if I should fall right through the center of the earth, and come out the other side where people walk upside down?”

She laughed at her own musing.

"Oh, but that's silly. No one ever walks that way!"

The map floated away, and Cinderella was left alone again, wondering to herself when her feet would finally touch solid ground. She let out a sigh of exasperation, wishing that the fall was already over, or that something might happen to make this trip go faster. The walls of brick faded away and brown earth and dirt with roots sticking out in all manner of places took precedent as at the beginning, yet she still found the walls adorned with knick-knacks and all manner of furnishings. With nothing else to do, she started talking again.

"What was that glowing ball anyway?" she thought aloud. "I can't imagine what it could have been. What's more, what did it want with me? Was it trying to lead me to something? But what? Maybe I shouldn't have followed it, if this was what would happen. Then again, I never would have learned that my dress could act this way! If this fall ever ends, I must try to use it again some time. Now, where could I go to practice falling with my dress?"

She put a finger to her lip in thought, closing her eyes and trying to imagine all the possible locales.

"There are some high cliffs near the sea," she said. "Though it would get my dress wet and ruined at the bottom. Maybe I could jump from one of the castle towers? No, the guards would think I am suicidal! Or maybe--"

Her musings ended when she felt her fall slow to a stop. At first she was delighted that she was free from gravity’s pull, but looked down to see nothing but light silver and frills. Her feet still hung helplessly in midair, with no indication of solid ground beneath her. But that left her with a quandary: why had she stopped in midair…unless…

Cinderella looked around her, and saw that her dress had been spread out like a tablecloth. The walls were lined with a ring of long, thick, tangled roots. That's when it hit her: the roots had caught the hem of her skirt, and now they were keeping her in suspension. The princess would be stuck like this unless she freed herself and continued her way to the bottom.

"Now, how do I get out of this?" Cinderella thought to herself.

She tried to bounce up and down, to shake the grasp of the roots, but she didn't budge. Cinderella couldn't help but giggle at the sensation, but she knew that one false move would rip her beautiful dress. To make matters more complicated, she didn't even know what was beneath her, since all she could see was her large voluptuous dress surrounding her. Irritated at her situation, the young girl pouted and crossed her arms, looking all over for a solution. The hem was far too wide for her to reach, meaning she couldn't drag herself free.

Then, as she looked up, she saw a bright light slowly levitate down toward her. Her blue eyes widened in wonder as she instantly recognized the light: the glowing orb from before! The same ball of light that guided her here! Had it been above her the whole time?

The ball floated down to her eye level and hovered there for a few moments. Cinderella could hear a faint humming, like the buzz of a busy bee. As she reached out one of her hands to touch it, the ball began to glow bright white, almost bathing her in blinding illumination. One finger touched the surface of the incandescent ball, and it felt smooth, like glass. Yet it was cool to the touch. How was it possible? Something with that bright a light would surely be white hot, and yet it felt cold as ice.

Suddenly, Cinderella felt her feet wrenched by gravity, and she began to fall through her dress. She panicked, fearing that if she lost her dress the fall would end in a violent death below. What would happen without her reliable parachute? Why was the glowing ball here?! Just what was going on?

Before she had an answer to any question, Cinderella slid through the bodice of her dress as it was raised up over her head. A fast plummet would have resulted had the plucky princess not caught the sleeves of her dress in time to stop her, but now her predicament was worse than before. She looked down, and first noticed her exposed blue lace bra and matching panties, her long white stockings held up by her matching garter belt and her glass slippers, the same ones she wore at the ball where she met the prince. It was a good thing she was falling alone, she thought, as it would be incredibly mortifying for anyone else to see her in such a state. Further below her was still darkness, with not a sign of solid earth. It was still a long fall before reaching the bottom.

At that moment, the ball of light floated slowly through the bodice of her dress and came alongside her, still humming and radiating the way. Could this orb be of any help to her, she thought? Maybe if she held onto it, it could help her down. But she didn't want to risk reaching for it, and miss, consigning her to a violent plummet the rest of the way.

However, it soon turned out that was to be her fate anyway, as her dress started to fade above her. Slowly at first, but with a small jingle the hem desiccated and turned into dust. The dusting process continued inward as Cinderella's eyes watched in fear of what was to come. She braced herself for the fast fall that awaited her as the dust reached her waist, then up her bodice, and down to her sleeves. The dress crumbled in her hands and she was left with nothing but air to hold onto as she hovered for a split-second, and then fell.

Cinderella shrieked shrilly as she tumbled, her golden hair flying in the wind with nothing to support her. The various knicknacks and furniture in the hole whizzed past her as she looked around, searching for anything to stop her fall or at least slow it further. Surprisingly, she found the glowing ball falling next to her at the same speed, humming loudly enough for her to hear over the whipping winds. She reached out for it, hoping that something, anything would happen to save her. But then, something strange happened.

The ball began to glow brighter until it was white, blinding Cinderella for a moment to everything. When she opened her eyes, she found the hole was gone, and was instead falling through a white void, the orb still beside her. Then the globe began to expand, getting bigger and bigger until she thought for sure it would consume her. Everything went white again, and Cinderella blithely reached her hand out to touch the orb when....

....she woke up.

Cinderella was in her bed chambers, the curtains still drawn around her with the sun peeking through. She was no longer falling but lying on the mattress she slept in night after night. Her party dress was gone as well, leaving her only in her pink nightgown. Everything, the rabbit hole, the long fall, the glowing ball, the furniture, books, mirrors and everything else had all been a dream. She sighed in relief to know that it was one, but still couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.

As much as she didn't want to say it, she had enjoyed floating through the air with nothing but her dress. But maybe, she thought as she sat up and pulled back the curtains, it wasn't all fiction.

She had to find her party dress, and see if she really could float. Even if nothing else was real, she'd be content with that.

The End

April 23 2015 Update: Been long overdue, but combined both parts of the story to make one file. Now you can read it all in one go.  Also changed the preview image to :iconjennardacci:'s lovely rendering.

It's been a long time, yeah? Well, let me explain as simply as possible: School kicked my ass, Christmas vacation was too damn short, and now I'm back in school again for another five months. However, during the sliver of free time I had, I managed to write another parachute dress story. This one involves Cinderella because, come on, that large poofy dress of hers is just perfect for this kind of story. I couldn't think of any kind of situations to put her in where she could fall, so I just went with a variation of the "Rabbit hole" theme. I left it in a cliffhanger (if you can even call it that for this kind of story) because, well, I just don't have time to finish it right now. When I get a break from school, I will definitely return to Cinderella to finish her long fall (she still has a ways to go), but I just can't afford to distract myself with this right now.

Also on a related note, for those who wish to request me more parachute dress stories, I've changed my policies a bit. You can send me a suggestion (what character you want, how she falls, how ecchi is it, etc), but I like to write with as few constraints as possible. I feel like the best stories come from an author who has freedom. So if you have specific suggestions for a parachute story, I'll note it, but it might not get into the final version. It depends on if I can do anything with it or not. Hope this makes sense.

The story was requested by :iconaquateen510: Hope you like it!
